Life... Is A Beach...

My Mom loves two things above all others (besides me and my sister of course)...

The Beach.... And Ginger....(yes... ginger candy yuck!)

So, for her Birthday party I decided I would surprise her with a new creation... So I ran to the store and bought two bags of candied ginger... ginger cookies... and powdered ginger....
And decided to get started with her Beach cake :)

Let me start explaining each aspect of this cake :)

Classic chair... Mom just loves to sit and watch the waves. When we were little we would take our chairs to the water and just watch the waves for the day...
Chair is gumpaste....

After much trial and error, Iwas able to make ginger sand... Yes... lol
The sand is made of an old fashioned ginger snap crushed, and mixed with sugars and ginger...

There is no beach for Mom without a Volly ball. Mom and I both share in the love for Volley!

Each of the small shells and starfish were hand moulded as well

And I also (Because I would never use ginger) made some ginger cookies which, I tasted and tasted rather awesome!

Happy Birthday Mommy Cupcake!

Falling in Love for Fall

The picture above is the front of Christina's Cake... can you guess what it is?

Sprinkles for Sprinkles :)

A few girl friends have this tradition...
Every time one of us becomes pregnant, we get together, shower them with gifts, laugh, play games... and eat cake :)

So, I tested my new fondant recipe... New Raspberry Cake Recipe.... And new Raspberry filling recipe on the girls...

I wasn't too happy with the new fondant recipe... The first cake... exploded! The fondant melted off the cake after being refrigerated ant there I was at 4am making another batch... this time with just a little more cream added...

They always say "don't mess with a good thing" and so... I decided I would stick to our old fashioned Marshmallow fondant!

Congratulations to the Mommies... Ally, Kerri and Jess... who each delivered their healthy, beautiful little girls not too long ago!

God Bless Lucas!

Lucas' mom contacted us about a last minute cake for her son's communion...
And we were so very excited when we heard the theme!
Although this is probably the LONGEST I ever worked on a cake (See the rosary? well, I have a major obsession with detail and needed to have each the exact same size!)

So, I decided to make the cake thicker and higher so that the cake looked more like a cloud...

The cake was our organic vanilla bean cake with vanilla fluff filling.
The cross is made of sugarpaste, as well as the clouds...

And I have to throw in one more picture of this little angel:

Congratulations Lucas!

Amanda Picone Photography... Does it again!

I Know, I sound like a broken record...
But Amanda has done it again...
Those of you who remember my son's "Smash The Cake" shoot know of her... well... She also did a holiday mini-session and I was lucky enough to be a part of it!
And this was just a teaser!
Along with the shoot, Dean's future wife played hard to get!! (LOVE HER)

Now, I know these aren't cakes... But what can be more sweet than two little one year olds running around like this?

Rehearsal hits a hole in one... or... a goal :)

Dana contacted us about a cake and cupcakes for her Fiance Steven. She wanted them to be at her rehearsal dinner.

She asked us to incorporate his two favorite sports... Hockey and Golf...

So, we created a Chocolate cake that was shaped like a hockey puck... along with chocolate cupcakeswith golf balls on the green!

Dana and Steven have since shared their vows, so Little Mrs Cupcake would like to wish them a lifetime of happiness...
And Sweets!
